Fleas and Flea Eggs in Detail
Fleas are small tiny insects, that are mainly found on human and animal. They are wingless, with mouth parts specially adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood out of it. Fleas are external parasites, living feeding only off the blood of mammals as stated already before (including bats and humans) and and also Birds.
Now, lets taking a closer look at what fleas are,we shall find that thsese fleas are of different types, that range from cat fleas, dog fleas, human fleas, moorhen fleas, oriental rat flea and northern rat fleas. So lets take a detailed look into the first type we have listed up here(Cat Fleas)
The cat flea is a very small, blood sucking insect. The adult ones range from about 1-2 mm long and usually they are reddish-brown in colour, although from those I have seen, they may tend to vary in colour, so don’t take it as an absolute that they must be brown. In most cases, the cat flea, including all other fleas, are laterally compressed, and the result is an extremely thin insect that can mean to be very hard to find in an animal’s coat for example. The cat flea’s primary host is the domestic cat, but it has been discovered that this same cat flea is also the primary flea that is infesting dogs in most of the world.
The cat flea can also live happily on other canivores and on omnivores. Don’t forget that humans too can be bitten, though a long-term population of cat fleas cannot be sustained and infest people. However, if the female flea is allowed to feed for twelve consecutive hours on a human, it can lay viable eggs
The female cat flea lays her eggs on the host, but the eggs, once dry, have evolved to filter out of the haircoat of the host into the resting and sheltering area of the host.
