Deadly Sand Fleas
The sand flea also
known as ‘hop-along’ or the ‘no-see-um’
is a bothersome small creature which is a
whole pack of sharp bites. They actually appear
and attack in cluster and cause a number of
bites at a time. Being the European species,
its size is only 1/8 of an inch and has a
resemblance with mosquitoes, commonly found
in east coast of America. It has long legs
and long antennae which is one inch longer
than its whole waxy white body.
Sand flea generally feed in morning hours
and during late dusk on seaweed. These crustacean
species have thinner skin therefore it is
easy for them to penetrate in their attackers’
skin. They live on sand and can attack anything
present within the range of 100 meters on
the ground. In summers, a beachgoer can find
several bites around the skin of his/her ankle.
But during winters, they move towards the
direction of warm waters with the ocean.
Their group produces a whine of high-pitch
which helps you to be aware of their presence
on the beach and you can get rid of fleas.
Their bites cause lesions, welts and irritation
that last for several days along with itching
and pain at the end. Sand flea is an unpleasant
creature but its bite can be checked by the
use of insect repellant whenever you go to
beaches. These parasitic creatures attach
to the flesh and scale of other aquatic animals,
and then feed on the flesh they are attached
to. The common water creatures, which are
most likely to become their targets, are sword
fish, sunfish, small fish, star fish, flying
fish and even whales.
Normally, its size varies from a small grain
of sand to three times larger than it. They
attack on the limited area of the host. One
part of area bitted is severely affected by
it but other parts can not have any damage
or bad effect. These white waxy creatures
predate on the host body and they slowly eat
away the area where they get stick to their
body. They enter in their body by making the
passage by these parasites.
First it gradually eats away the topmost layer
of the skin then it enters inside the body
to suck the blood. They sometimes prove so
deadly that they kill their host once they
enter their bodies. To reduce the deadly effect
of their bite, we should apply some home remedy
for fleas. These are most troublesome and
annoying creatures for human beings and the
water creatures upon which they feed themselves.
We get rid of sand fleas; we can use old-fashioned
or primitive ways to combat their effect.
The best way to prevent and relieve from their
deadly effects is to adapt home remedies for
fleas.
