How to kill fleas
Fleas live on dogs,
cats, humans and other animals, but they can
lay eggs on the host’s bedding also.
Apart from this, the eggs that are laid on
the host’s body can fall off and gather
in the clothes, beds, cars, carpets, rugs,
lawns, gardens or any place where the host
moves about. The eggs of fleas normally hatch
within the 2 weeks, and after that, the fleas
materialize into larvae that can breed in
rugs and carpets for up to a time period of
200 days, before they get transformed into
a legless pupa.
Under some unfavorable conditions, these pupae
can also sit undeveloped on the carpet for
more than a year, before it turns into an
adult flea. This denotes that several generations
of fleas can congregate and lead to mass infestation
in a house. Therefore, the first safety measure
in order to get rid of fleas is to clean everything
regularly, vacuum the house from time to time,
and wash the carpets, rugs, curtains and other
fabrics that are likely to come in contact
with the infected animals and persons.
You can also choose steam-cleaning of the
carpets if larvae still remain after washing,
steam will definitely kill them. You can also
shampoo the rugs and carpets with insecticidal
shampoos, or ask a pest control expert to
apply an infra red treatment to the rug or
carpet, which will kill every stage of flea.
If your dog or cat spends a great deal of
time out of the home, you need to drench its
common resting areas with so much water and
soap in order to drown out any fleas from
the area. You can also use flea collars, which
is helpful in repelling the fleas from the
host. These collars continuously emit poisonous
vapors that are killers for fleas, but they
can also affect other people around the host,
so it should be worn only for the time that
is needed to control the fleas.
Incase you need to take care of controlling
the fleas, prefer to make use of a flea collar.
These are special collars that produce poisonous
vapors that help in eradicating fleas. But
their use should be made minimum as these
vapors are not good for the health of people
and pets, and can seriously cause major health
problems.
