Ways of Natural flea control
Flea is a big problem
when it comes to our domestic pets. Taking
care of the pets becomes more important as
these fleas not only harm your pet but also
your health. There are various methods of
controlling fleas including natural and chemical
methods. Natural flea control methods are
safer than chemical methods for your pets
as well as your own health and safety. There
are certain natural substances to which fleas
are allergic
for example:
1) One of them is diatomaceous earth
(DE), composed of fine fossilized shell of
an organism named Diatom. It works by attacking
the outer shell of the fleas because of which
fleas suffer dehydration and die within few
hours. DE doesn’t have any effect on
your pet and can safely be sprayed on it as
pets are not allergic to it.
2) Neem seed oil has been used as a
botanic pesticide for ages now. It contains
Vitamin E and smells like garlic. It has anti
bacterial properties as well which has a cooling
effect on the skin. It works by impairing
the development of fleas and other insects.
The oil should be combed in to the fur of
the pet with a help of flea comb which will
kill the fleas.
3) Oils from various trees like eucalyptus,
cedar, tea tree, citronella, penny royal are
very effective in killing fleas as fleas are
repulsive to such essential oils. These oils
can be used after diluting it in water or
in form of premeditated sprays.
4) Bathing your pet in Neem or oatmeal
based shampoo which will help in killing the
fleas by drowning.
5) Pets with poor health are more prone
to fleas as compared with healthy pets, so
this problem can be treated with the help
of giving a proper diet to your pet which
should include brewers yeast and garlic. They
both are flea repellent and will make your
pet stronger.
6) Another natural method to get rid
of fleas is use of small worms and nematode.
Their eggs and larvae are freeze dried, after
reconstitution they are sprayed into the field.
Worms are natural predators of flea and will
kill the flea by stopping their growth.
7) If you don’t wish to bathe
your pet every week, you can put a herbal
flea collar which will kill the fleas.
Natural Flea control methods have shown proven
results and are not harmful in any way. They
can be used in various combinations as a single
method can’t work alone.
